City enhances service delivery with new fleet

Today, the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Corporate Services, Alderman Theresa Uys visited the City’s vehicle yard in Ndabeni to inspect some of the latest replacement vehicles. Alderman Uys acknowledged the dedication and hard work of the City’s Fleet Management team in supporting service delivery within the City of Cape Town. Read more below:

‘The City of Cape Town continues to strengthen its service delivery capabilities through the procurement of vital vehicles and specialised equipment. The City’s strategic fleet upgrades form part of a broader effort to equip line departments with the tools necessary to meet the growing demands of Cape Town's communities, and to do this as efficiently and professionally,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Corporate Services, Alderman Theresa Uys.

A total budget of R208 million, approved by Council for the 2025/26 financial year, was allocated towards this initiative, of which R133 million has been dedicated to replacing critical vehicles, R30 million for plant equipment and R45 million for specialised equipment.

Approximately R60 million has been ring-fenced for fleet assets for the Safety and Security directorate, with the remaining budget supporting Community Services, Parks and Recreation, Urban Mobility and other essential City operations.

‘The City’s investment in its Fleet Replacement Programme not only enhances safety across Cape Town, but also guarantees a dependable, secure, and readily available fleet for all City departments serving the community,’ said Uys.

The City’s Fleet Management department is also responsible for procuring and managing additional vehicles for critical City initiatives such as the recent priority project by Safety and Security’s Metro Police, where over 200 vehicles were procured for new City Police officers who will be deployed in communities across the City. 

These and other new vehicles, which range from patrol sedans, light delivery vehicles, aerial platforms, panel vans and utility vehicles to specialised fire trucks, arrive at a crucial time to bolster the City’s capacity to effectively serve its residents.
